I have a similar problem, only I cannot even go into POST after a cold re-boot (power off / on) or reset. I have to clear CMOS and start over. If I restart Windows, it works fine -- If I shutdown (ie power off) -- forget it !! There seem to be a few similar posts here -- what is up ?

In other words, there should still be an error message on the CRT if the MB started to boot. Your problem seems to indicate that the boot process is not starting. Got a laptop running Windows 2000 Pro, but the problem I have is takes 4 attempts to get it to boot up properly. It freezes on the first 4 attempts on the flash screen, everytime it gets a little bit further on than the past attempt. On the 4th or 5th attempt it works fine. Once running the laptop is fine.

After a little work, the PC booted up and recognized all drives. He started copying his data files from the IBM SCSI drive to the Maxtor. Part way through the copying process, the system locked up. He hasn't had a successful re-boot since. He has disconnected all other drives except the IBM HD.
