This afternoon it suddenly will not boot all the way up. Rather than getting the log on screen, I get a screen that just has the logo. I've installed no new programs. I've hit F8 and booted from the last known good configuration, and have had no success. Does anyone know what the source of this problem might be?

When I used to boot up my computer it would always beep once, but now right after that first beep comes the second one and then so on... I never tried turning the computer on between messing with the memory/ide cables and the jumpers, making it more difficult to find the problem. I'm pretty sure I set the jumpers

Then the hard drive is accessed to start loading the OS as it should. At this point, the system powers off and shuts down.
